![]() ![]() Reverend Eugene Stewart Anderson organized the Anderson Grove Baptist Church in 1940. The first service was held on August 11,1940 in the home of a church member and eleven members were present. Another service followed on August 25th, after which a business meeting was held and the first property deed was offered for the purpose of building a church; this church was called “First Baptist. By December of 1940, with the assistance of Reverend Anderson, Reverend J. T. Hairston of Shiloh Baptist Church and Moderator of the Rowan Association, the official church was established. The name was changed from "First Baptist" to "Anderson Grove Baptist Church." In 1941, land was donated to construct the first church in the Stoney Hill Circle community. By 1948, the second church was built at 5419 Davis Mill Road. In the early sixties, the third and present church was constructed at the same location. Reverend and Mrs. E. S. Anderson served as Pastor and the First Lady for forty-six years. Reverend Anderson retired in 1986, but continued to serve the church until his death in 1991. Mrs. Anderson remained active in the church until her death in 1994. In April 1987, Reverend Ronnie Middlebrooks and his wife Yourah Denise Middlebrooks became the second Pastor and First Lady of Anderson Grove Baptist Church. They served the church for twelve years until his resignation on February 11, 2001. On December 1, 2001, Pastor Adrian F. Starks and his wife, First Lady Shandi Starks, became our third Pastor and First Lady of Anderson Grove Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc. On August 1,2003, after an arduous process of strategic planning Anderson Grove was blessed with a new place of worship located at 424 Fisher Park Circle in the downtown historic district of Fisher Park. Anderson Grove is the first predominantly African American congregation to reside in this religious community. Indications of growth and development are easily witnessed since this transition of location. A second service was implemented on September 7, 2003. In addition to the second service the Lord has blessed us to accomplish many endeavors including the advent of a county-wide Emergency Food Pantry and our first Foreign Missionaries to Trinidad & Tobago. Since the arrival of Pastor Starks the church has grown from 80 members to over 300 in less than 3 years. As the church continues to grow additional ministries are continually being birthed (i.e. Liturgical Dance Ministry, LIGHT (Ladies in Christ Growing Healthier Together), New Members Orientation, Tender Warriors, College Ministry, Youth Ministry, Community Outreach Ministry, Media Ministry, and Intercessory Prayer and more). As it is written, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him". I Corinthians 2:9 |
